Infrastructure
Physical facilities: The College has a land area of nearly 46 acres, with 14, 195 sq mts of built-up area. The main structures contain 58 class rooms, 24 laboratories (including Computer Labs), one Language Lab, three IT enabled Seminar Halls and one Auditorium. The North Block houses Research Rooms for scholars and Examination Halls for the smooth conduct of examinations. Along with the Central Library, there are Department Libraries as well. The Library and the Cooperative Store provide books, reprographic facilities and other stationery items at subsidized rates. A canteen is functional within the campus. The College has a Women’s Hostel within the premises, offering accommodation for 150 girl students.
A Women’s Rest Room has been constructed in the campus, sponsored by Sri. G. Sudhakaran (Former MLA, Ambalappuzha & Mininter of Public Works-2006-21) from the MLA Fund. The rest room is well furnished with two attached toilets, drinking water facility and a pad vending machine installed in it. The College Auditorium is getting revamped in connection with the Platinum Jubilee and a building fund (MPLADS) from Sri. A.K. Antony, Member of Parliament, is in the offing. Sports and games are facilitated through the space set apart as Football Court, Volleyball Court and Basketball Court. The college has developed a Cricket ground in collaboration with the Kerala Cricket Association. A gymnasium and a shuttle badminton court have also been set up.
Library as a Learning Centre – Built up area of the library is 5904 sq. ft consisting of General Library, PG Library, Reference Section and IT Zone. The current strength of materials comprises 56091 books, 68 Journals and periodicals. Books are bar-coded and the issue and return of books are computerised. The average number of walk-ins is around 70 per day. There are 6000 journals available under NLIST/INFLIBNET facility. Library resources also involve 150 CDs and 4 software including one meant for blind students.
IT Infrastructure – 147 computers are made available throughout the College. 135 of them are connected on LAN via underground Optical Fibre Cable. 12 laptops are provided to various Departments. Wi-Fi facility is provided in all departments. A full-time system administrator looks after the IT facilities. Centralized computing facility with 40 computers is available for the students. Mini computer rooms are available in many of the departments. There are over 22 LCD projectors and 37 printers available in the College ranging across various departments.
The IT infrastructure of the institution has been enhanced in the Platinum Jubilee Year 2021-22 with 16 Short Throw LCD projectors and 4 electronic podia sponsored by Adv. A.M. Ariff, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from his MP Fund, the sponsorship grossing to Rs. 14 lakhs. A Video Conferencing cum Recording Studio sponsored by Lulu International has been installed in the College campus. The sponsorship grosses to Rs. 10 lakhs. The facility will improve online and blended teaching- learning practices, and enable the development of high quality e-content for educational purposes (MOOC Courses, Educational Channels etc.).
Maintenance of Campus Facilities – Computers and Network issues are covered under warranty or Annual Maintenance Contract. UPS back up is given for computers, and generator back-up is arranged for major equipment and laboratories. Solar panels have been installed to ensure the use of renewable energy. Water supply within the campus is kept in balance through rain water harvesting and independent wells.
Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Memorial Common Science Instrumentation Centre: A separate building is made available to host all the facilities under the Fund for Improvement of S&T infrastructure (FIST) project which is an initiative by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India towards providing basic infrastructure, enabling facilities and environment for promoting R&D in new and emerging areas. All the expenses towards the construction of building and other infrastructural facilities were funded by the management of the college. The building has separate space for research equipment, computers and networking facilities and e-learning facilities. The idea of a separate building is to encourage inter-departmental and inter-institute research and collaborations. The fully functional centre is currently a hub of research collaborations.
